Set on a hilltop near Inuvik and boasting a great view of the surrounding area, Jak Territorial Park features a small lake for canoeing, interpretive displays, walking trails, a children's playground and a fully serviced campground. Jak means berries in the Gwich'in language and the park is full of them during the camping season.
Jim Coe Park is located in downtown Inuvik and hosts the town's annual Canada Day festivities.
Located approximately 40 km south of Inuvik on the Dempster Highway, the Gwich'in Territorial Park Reserve features scenic limestone cliffs, Campbell Lake, rare arctic plants, a fall migratory bird staging area and a unique reversing delta in the spring. The Vadzaih van Tshik Territorial Campground offers 12 campsites with limited facilities on Caribou Creek.
Herschel Island is located in the Beaufort Sea, off the Yukon's north coast. Several species of birds and wildlife frequent the area once inhabited by prehistoric hunters and fishers. Enjoy hiking, camping, photography and wildlife viewing. Visitors to the park are advised to carry all necessary equipment, clothing and supplies as there are limited services.
Aulavik National Park is located on Banks Island, in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Covering more than 12,000 sq km, the park's rugged arctic lowlands landscape features polar deserts, river valleys, badlands and coastline. Home to one of North America's most northerly navigable rivers (Thomsen River), as well as the world's largest population of muskoxen and the endangered Peary caribou, the park attracts paddlers, back-country hikers and wildlife viewers. The park may be accessed by charter plane from Inuvik.
Ivvavik National Park is located approximately 200 km east of Inuvik. There is evidence that human habitation can be dated back 30 000 years. The remains of eight distinct cultures have been discovered by archaeologists. The Firth River is rated as difficult by canoers and kayakers.
